Hong Kong Things to Do Travel

Best Bars and Clubs in and around Lan Kwai Fong | Hong Kong Travel Guide

If you like to drink, you’re in the right place. Hong Kong boasts one of the most unique nightlife cultures thanks to 2 key factors:

  1. It’s legal to consume alcohol on the street
  2. All of the clubs in the city are centered around a 4 block square called Lan Kwai Fong (or LKF).

On the weekends, the 4 streets that create this square are actually closed to traffic, so since you can drink on the street, you’ll find that all of the bars spill out into a party on the street. There’s even a 7-11 in the heart of LKF, so many folks just pick up drinks from there and join the festivities on the street (especially younger college students, so be forewarned).

It’s frankly very overwhelming, between the drunk people on the street, locals selling LED-lit headbands and batons, and the dance party that always happens on one corner where the music of a shot bar blares out down the block. It can definitely be a lot of fun, but there are also a lot of great bars and clubs inside and just outside of LKF if you want to escape the scene happening on the street. Here are my favorite places to drink and dance in the area

Best Bars & Clubs in & around Lan Kwai Fong

Barkada

That’s right, my very own restaurant also has an awesome street-facing bar that serves delicious cocktails, wine, spirits and Red Horse beer on tap. Even better, house drinks are just $70 every Tuesday-Saturday from 10PM-11:30PM, so it’s perfect for pregaming before you head to one of the other spots on this list.

Quality Good Club

My favorite all-around club in Hong Kong can be found right across from Barkada, through an alleyway between 2 kebab shops. The music varies every night, from bumping house music to open format nights with a mix of hip hop and house, plus the occasional throwback 90s night and even live music during dinnertime. Quality Good Club (aka QGC) is also run by the same crew that operates The Shady Acres and Honky Tonks Tavern, which are 2 of my favorite dog-friendly neighborhood bars just down the street from QGC.

Cassio

My favorite club for deep house tunes in a sleek lounge space on Wyndham Street, with a large bar area in one room, dance floor and tables in another, and large outdoor terrace.

Frank’s

It gets very crowded on weekends for a reason, as this spot right on the thoroughfare of Wyndham Street is always bumping a great all-vinyl soundtrack that leans hip hop on weekends but generally hits a variety of genres. They also serve crazy delicious Italian-American food if you come for dinner before the party starts.

Draft Land

This Taiwanese import serves awesome cocktails on tap in a bustling space that opens to the sidewalk. Since drinks are on tap, you can taste them before you commit, there’s minimal waiting time, and prices are quite reasonable vs. other places. They also have great bar snacks for munchies

Racks

Pretty much the only place you can get a strictly hip hop soundtrack. Kind of a multipurpose dive bar/lounge with an area for dancing, lots of seating, plus darts, pool, and beer pong, located just outside of LKF on Wyndham Street

Tazmania Ballroom

Club with tables and a small dance area on one end, pool tables, and a long extensive bar with a variety of music from hip hop to house to top 40. Always a solid option thanks to their dope music director

Foxglove

Behind a small Kingsman-style umbrella shop is this vast speakeasy style lounge that also has a stellar live band on Thursdays and weekends after 10pm

Stockton

Speakeasy off Wyndham Street with unique craft cocktails and delicious bar bites like mac and cheese bites and a duck scotch egg.

Insomnia

Sometimes crowded lounge in LKF with a stellar live band performing top 40 hits. Ladies, just be on watch for creepy guys that sometimes pop up here

Oma

Very small, divey club for underground house and techno. They charge a small cover inclusive of one drink on weekends
