We just finished the first half of our babymoon in Bali, and had an absolutely blissful stay at Maya Ubud Resort and Spa. This expansive luxury resort in Ubud, Bali is tucked in the middle of the jungle but located just 10-15 minutes from the main part of Ubud town, making it an excellent choice for an unforgettable time with stunning views, ample activities, delicious dining options, and incredibly friendly and attentive service with a personal butler one WhatsApp message away.
Even if you don’t stay here, it’s worth booking a massage at the open-air Maya Spa with jungle and river views from each treatment room, which I’ll get into later. So keep reading for a full break down of our 4 night stay with tips on how to make the most of the resort.

Rooms and Villas at Maya Ubud Resort
The resort offers a variety of luxurious accommodations in Ubud, including regular hotel rooms with balconies overlooking the forest and private villas with jacuzzi tubs or private pools.
We opted for their Heavenly Pool Villa that has a private plunge pool with a beautiful garden overlooking the valley where we would wake up to monkeys peacefully enjoying their breakfast in the trees (no need to visit the Monkey Forest!).

The rooms themselves are comfortably set up with single or king sized beds with mattresses that are on the more firm side. They also have a pillow menu so can request the level of support you want so you can get a good night’s sleep. They also have big sunken tubs overlooking your private pool and provide all the toiletries you need.
Our room also came with personal butler service, so we could directly message our requests through WhatsApp for everything from booking restaurants and activities to calling a buggy to take us to other parts of the property.
Plus, staying in a private villa allows you to book unique experiences like having a private chef grill at your villa (more on that later) or enjoy floating breakfast.
Maya Ubud’s Floating Breakfast is Worth the Splurge

Maya Ubud’s Floating Journey is only available if you book a private pool villa. To be honest, we didn’t really use the private pool except for when we did our floating breakfast, but we found the Asian Dreams menu to be worth the extra 847K rupiah (51 USD) for two. You get to enjoy a massive spread of delicious food that included items not available at the breakfast buffet like the Bubur Ayam, a flavorful chicken rice porridge, and Pisang Rai, bananas in sticky rice with coconut palm sugar syrup. It makes for a magical morning enjoying your food in the intimate and relaxing setting of your private pool.
In-Villa Grill at Maya Ubud

Another perk of booking a villa is that you can experience Maya Ubud’s In-Villa Grill, which basically takes room service to the next level. They set up a grill in your yard and you get a personal chef who cooks a multi-course dinner, along with a dedicated waiter who serves each course and any drinks you want to a table in your patio.
We were able to put on our favorite music while enjoying an intimate evening with a tasty seafood dinner that included super tender teriyaki octopus, garlicky steamed clams (ask for extra sourdough bread to sop up the broth!), flavorful fish cooked in banana leaves, and a perfectly not-too-sweet caramelized pineapple with coconut cream.
Maya Ubud’s Stunning Infinity Pools
Maya Ubud features two infinity-edge pools overlooking lush jungle scenery, with food and drink service available at both by pressing a button from your seat.
Infinity Forest Pool

The larger main Infinity Forest Pool offers expansive views of the valley, with more sun loungers, a shallow pool for small children, and food & beverages from Tree Bar.
Infinity River Pool

The Infinity River Pool was our favorite though, offering a tranquil adults-only escape with the sounds of the river flowing and lush jungle walls to look at while hanging off the side of the pool. The staff here can also take great photos of you as pictured below, though the food is a little better with more variety at the forest pool as I’ll detail below.
Dining at Maya Ubud—What to Order and What to Skip
Besides the floating breakfast and in-villa grill, the the food at Maya Ubud was delicious (with some notable exceptions I’ll detail here) and priced reasonably. We had most of our meals at the resort as we didn’t want to deal with Ubud traffic. Most importantly, we never had any stomach issues throughout our trip, so you can eat here confidently without worrying about Bali Belly.
Breakfast, Afternoon Tea & Dinner at Mayasari

Mayasari is the main all-day restaurant at Maya Ubud, serving Indonesian specialties and international cuisine with breathtaking valley views. Breakfast is served here where you can order a variety of eggs directly to your table, alongside a buffet spread of western, Indonesian, Asian and Indian items split across two rooms.
Breakfast tip: the noodle station has good toppings, but the broth has very little flavor, so add the much tastier soups (like laksa, Indonesian soto ayam, and more) from the daily rotating soup station instead. Don’t miss the Indonesian wingko coconut pancakes and daily rotating Indonesian glutinous rice and coconut desserts.

Mayasari also hosts a complimentary afternoon tea from 4-5PM with four daily rotating snacks, coffee, tea and a variety of juices, plus a popcorn machine. The snacks are hit or miss, but it’s a nice option to have if you get hungry in the afternoon.

At dinner, Mayasari hosts nightly cultural performances at their amphitheater while you enjoy a menu of Balinese and western dishes. You can even dance with the performers on stage for fan dancing during the weekly Joged Dance.

All of the Indonesian food we tried was delicious, including the beef rendang, chicken curry, and roast chicken, but the crispy duck was our favorite and definitely a must try. The desserts we had weren’t great though, with the caramelized apple tatin being particularly bad. I would recommend ordering the banana fritters or just getting ice cream if you want something sweet.
Sunset Happy Hour, Snacks & Dinner at Tree Bar

Tree Bar is Maya Ubud’s beautiful all-day outdoor patio bar and restaurant that overlooks the jungle and infinity pool, with live music every night from 6-8PM, plus 50% off alcoholic drinks from 5-7PM to pair with tapas and bar bites like yummy calamari. You can watch the sunset over the rice paddy fields from this elevated view. Tree Bar also has a burger menu that includes a Babi Guling Pork Burger that was delicious if you want to have a more laidback dinner here.
Pizza and Gelato at River Cafe

Only open until 5PM, the River Cafe overlooks the Infinity River Pool and serves up solid pizzas and gelato to tables on their second floor patio, as well as to the pool. Skip the fish and chips though as it is just bland fish sticks and soggy potato wedges.
The Award-Winning Maya Spa

The Maya Ubud Spa is definitely a highlight and it’s also open to non-resort guests. The spa is perched next to the Infinity River Pool, so each open-air treatment room overlooks the river and jungle to provide calming sounds of nature while you get your treatment. They were able to do a prenatal Balinese massage for me where I laid on my side while Mike opted for an excellent four hands massage. You can finish off your massage with a photo-worthy floral bath—be sure to request a river view for your bath.
Don’t Miss Maya Ubud’s Forest Trail Walk

One of the most unique aspects of the property is their gorgeous private forest trail, winding along the Petanu River through lush tropical greenery. There’s an easier path or advanced path with more stairs, and there are a few photo spots along the walk that goes from one end of the property and ends at the River Cafe. It’s perfect for getting in some movement while listening to the sounds of nature.
Daily Complimentary Yoga at Maya Ubud

We never woke up early enough for it, but I would have loved to start the morning with their complimentary yoga in this open air yoga pavilion overlooking the rice paddy fields. They have a variety of complimentary wellness experiences, as well as a tennis court you can rent and a small fitness center to get a work out in.
Explore Maya Ubud’s Rice Paddies

From the fitness center, you can walk across a suspended bridge to Maya Ubud’s Growing Grounds, where you can see the plants and herbs, walk the peaceful rice paddies, and even feed ducks at 8:30AM each morning.
