I made the Sailor Moon-inspired baby shower of my dreams a reality! I know that most people let their friends plan their baby shower, but since it was also my birthday party and I’ve been in a major creative and planning mode throughout my pregnancy, I wanted to control every single detail 😂 Thankfully my friends helped with hanging all of the decorations I purchased to make my vision for a moon and stars-themed baby shower come to life. Here’s everything I did in case you need inspiration for your own Over the Moon baby shower or celestial party!
My Baby Shower Dress

The very first thing I purchased for my baby shower was this stunning Club L London dress. I wanted to feel like Princess Serenity, but didn’t want to wear something that looked like a cosplay dress, so this one with an attached cape and floral sleeves still gave the princess vibes while being super stretchy and comfy. I paired it with a moon crown (linked a similar one) to tie into the theme, and had my dress altered to give a more flattering sweetheart neckline that also kept the sleeves from sliding up.

I designed my own Sailor Moon-inspired invitation that I used as a template for all of the signs throughout my baby shower. I really wanted a cohesive look and feel, and I also wanted to fully customize all of the signs, from the DIY onesie station to our food displays (more on that later).
Over the Moon Baby Shower Decorations

Once I saw this “We are Over the Moon” fabric backdrop, I knew I could make my moon and stars-themed baby shower a reality (it also comes in blue and other styles if you’re having a boy or a similar theme!)

I also found a matching “We are Over the Moon” sticker decal that can be placed on a cardboard backdrop. I found our crescent moon cardboard backdrop from Taobao (basically Hong Kong’s version of Amazon, use the image search function to find this one!), and surrounded that with a variety of large moon and stars balloons since these are easier to inflate and hang than a full balloon arch.

I got this crescent moon-shaped wooden frame guestbook with little wooden stars that guests can sign and drop into the frame, and a paperback “Love you to the moon and back” guestbook that had prompts for guests to write advice to the parents and wishes for the baby. I love the idea of having cute keepsakes that can be displayed in the nursery. I left out metallic markers to sign the guestbook so it had a more premium feel, and used disco ball cups from last year’s Cowboy Carter-themed birthday to hold the markers.
My Sailor Moon Cake

I worked with Desert Blossom to create the prettiest Sailor Moon-inspired dome cake complete with a little heart compact charm at the top, tiny crescent moons piped onto the cake, and lots of bows. I added this cute over the moon cake topper that we also used on our lumpia cake.
Moon-Themed Food Display

We served Dough Bros pizza paired with cute signs for the food that I made on Canva like “when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie” to match the moon theme. I tried to put baby or love-themed puns with each food item, from chicken tenders to doughnuts, plus a lumpia and pancit cake from my restaurant Barkada. We also had steamer baskets with half moon-shaped momos, which are one of my favorite kinds of dumplings.
We served everything on gold star plates with matching gold star napkins. I also had a cute baby blanket with gold stars that I used to add dimension to the table.
Why We Chose a Cocktail Lounge for our Baby Shower Venue

YUME is a new cocktail lounge in Hong Kong that was previously one of my favorite night clubs called Quality Goods Club, and another club called Drop before that. It might seem non-traditional to host a baby shower in what used to be a night club, but the renovated cocktail lounge worked perfectly with pink furniture and pink lighting that matched the theme, plus ample space for all of our activities.

We had an open area for photos, an area against the wall for our food display, a lounge area for sitting and eating, a couch area for the DIY onesie station, space to play diaper pong, and even an elevated platform for the DJ booth that made it easier to take group photos since people could stand on the steps to be on different levels.

We were able to turn the lights down when my friend DJ Swei came onto the decks. Since I was also celebrating my birthday, I wanted to still be able to dance but in a safe space with no one bumping into me.

Plus, what’s a party without some drinks? YUME offered a free-flow prosecco, wine, beer and mocktail package so everyone could enjoy some delicious beverages, especially the pink grapefruit mocktail by their mixologist Raiza Carrera that this pregnant lady couldn’t get enough of. Shoot them a DM if you’re interested in booking a private event here!
I’m so grateful to my friends for helping me celebrate such a big milestone and for supporting us with gifts for our baby girl. You can see some of the gifts in our baby nursery and also check out my Amazon lists with many of the items we received from our baby shower.
