If you’re looking for a trendy hotel with stunning views of Hong Kong, a convenient location, and excellent food and beverage options both in and right outside of the hotel, then look no further than the Mondrian Hong Kong. As home to Carna Steakhouse and Avoca cocktail bar, we chose the Mondrian for our wedding anniversary staycation primarily to just eat, drink and enjoy the views from our Premier Harbour Room. It’s ideal for having a centrally located place to sleep and enjoy the well-designed and artsy interiors in between exploring the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) area of Hong Kong.

Mondrian Hong Kong Overview & Location
Opened in December 2023, the Mondrian Hong Kong is the artsy hotel chain’s first property in Greater China with 324 rooms. Since there isn’t a swimming pool, it’s primarily a city hotel designed for having a convenient yet stylish place to rest in between exploring. The Mondrian is located around the corner from Tsim Sha Tsui station (exit N1 or N2), so it’s incredibly easy to connect to other parts of Hong Kong via the MTR.

You can also reach the Bruce Lee statue on the TST waterfront promenade and Avenue of the Stars within 5 minutes by walking a couple of blocks to the elevated walkway from Chatham Road S (watch the video below to see what I mean). Or you can head the other direction to be in the heart of TST’s busy shopping district with endless cafes and restaurants to try.

Premier Harbour Room at Mondrian Hong Kong

We stayed in the largest of the Mondrianโs regular rooms, with 290 square meters of floor space and gorgeous views of Victoria Harbour from the comfortable king sized bed. There’s a hallway with closet area with a counter for opening carry-on luggage, in-room water filter and coffee bar, and Malin + Goetz bath products in the shower.

There isn’t a desk so the room probably isn’t as suited to business travelers. But if you’re celebrating an occasion, the hotel will put some small touches like a cake in the room and flower petals on the bed. If you’re bringing a baby like we did, the hotel will provide a crib, bottle sterilizer, warmer, and bathtub for your little one. They don’t have breastmilk storage though, so you’ll need to bring your own insulated bag to use with ice.

Steak Dinner at Carna by Dario Cecchina

The main reason we decided to stay at The Mondrian is because we wanted to celebrate our anniversary with steak, and Carna by Dario Ceccina has been on my list to try for ages. Recently ranked No. 78 on the Worldโs 101 Best Steakhouses, this Italian steakhouse from Tuscany’s most famous butcher follows a nose-to-tail approach, featuring every cut of beef across the menu.
Carna is the perfect special occasion restaurant, as it boasts beautiful views from every corner of its two dining rooms on the 39th floor of the Mondrian Hong Kong. The stunning interiors by local designer Joyce Wang are warm but luxurious, with velvet banquettes, glowing archways and stained glass details to transport you to Chianti.

We loved the beef tartare, which is hand chopped and mixed tableside, along with a decadent creamy and cheesy seasonal white asparagus risotto, tender and juicy Bistecca alla Fiorentina that took us right back to our honeymoon in Florence, and the massive family-size tiramisu imprinted with the Carna name. Plus don’t miss the savory Pomodoro cocktail, a light tomato-based drink that pairs perfectly with the food.

Hong Kong-Inspired Cocktails at Avoca
Avoca is a gorgeous bar and lounge on the 38th floor of the Mondrian Hong Kong that’s a MUST for cocktail lovers who want a taste of local flavors and innovative creations. We loved Avoca so much, we went two days in a row so we could try even more of whole menu (a perk of staying in the hotel so you can just take the elevator home ๐)

Avoca features 12 signature cocktails that each turn a classic Hong Kong food or drink into delicious libations, and the best part is that you can smell and taste the cocktails before you choose one through their โLiquid Menuโ with spray bottles that have a sample of each cocktail. My personal favorites were the coffee-milk tea (yeun yeung) martini with a mini pineapple bun with butter and clarified mango pomelo with mango foam (pictured above), plus a pickled cucumber gimlet and lao gan ma chili-oil spiked bloody mary for something savory.

The bar snacks are also excellent, especially the loaded lobster and crab rolls and luscious beef cheek spring rolls. They also have larger plates so you can even have a full dinner here, or opt for their weekend brunch that includes free-flow cocktails for up to 2-4 hours depending on how long you want to continue drinking. On weekends, they also have a DJ so it’s more of a party vibe late at night. Don’t miss the lounge bed area in the corner of the space if you want to kick back and relax in a private room while taking in the view.

Breakfast at Avoca
Avoca is also host to the Mondrian’s semi-buffet breakfast, featuring your choice of a breakfast set (like noodles and dim sum or avocado toast) alongside a refreshment counter that includes fresh juices, cold cuts, cheese and breads. It’s a treat to start the day in the relaxed setting of Avoca overlooking the harbour, though the food itself isn’t anything special to be honest considering the HK$270 (US$35) per head price if breakfast isn’t included in your room rate. In looking at other tables, we wish we had ordered the Farmhouse breakfast set with scrambled eggs, bacon, and sides, so maybe our opinion would be different if we ordered that one ๐

If you need to pay for breakfast, you’re probably better off getting dim sum next door at One Dim Sum or visiting a local cha chaan teng like Mon Kee Cafe for breakfast nearby, and putting your budget to visit Avoca for their weekend brunch, dinner and/or cocktails instead.
Hotel Gym and Roof Garden
When you need a break from eating and drinking, the Mondrian Hong Kong has a simple, modern gym with dumbbells, a smith machine and cardio equipment.

There’s also a covered roof garden on the top floor that has lounge chairs to relax in the open air, plus high chairs overlooking the view. This space is mainly used for private events, though the Avoca staff mentioned they sometimes have a pop-up bar in this space.

Prime Location in Tsim Sha Tsui
Besides the on-property dining, Tsim Sha Tsui is filled with endless things to see, eat, and drink, so the Mondrian’s location makes it easy to explore some of the best Hong Kong has to offer. One Dim Sum is basically right next door, and in less than a 5 minute walk, you can get my favorite egg tarts in Hong Kong from Marouf & Puff Bake. Some of my favorite dessert shops are also within a few blocks of the hotel, including the churro sundaes from Twist & Buckle, Cantonese sweet soups from Grindie, and gelato-filled cream puffs from Owl’s Choux.

From a convenience perspective, there’s a 7-Eleven right down the street from the hotel. The MTR entrance is just around the corner of the hotel, so besides making it easy to transit to other parts of Hong Kong, you can also easily walk underground to reach 3 different shopping malls (K11 Musea, K11 Art Mall, and iSQUARE), which is perfect if the weather is rainy.
Overall, we had a wonderful food-filled staycation at the Mondrian Hong Kong. Itโs great for travelers looking for a modern hotel with epic views and excellent food and beverage options and convenient location that’s walking distance to some of Hong Kong’s top things to do.
