Located in the New Territories, Tseung Kwan O might be Hong Kong’s most family and pet-friendly neighborhood. With a waterfront promenade, separate dog parks for small and large dogs, wide sidewalks for strollers, and so much pet-friendly dining and shopping, it’s a great spot for a daytime outing with the whole family. I’ve been frequenting TKO both with and without my dogs given it’s also home to the Immigration Tower, where you need to visit if you apply for permanent residency or any visas in Hong Kong.

So whether you’re looking to make the most out of a mundane trip to the immigration office with a good lunch, or you’re spending a full day exploring the area, here are my picks for my favorite places that I’ve tried in Tseung Kwan O.
Hygge

I actually look forward to visiting the immigration tower in TKO solely so I have an excuse to eat the pizza at this cozy cafe at Tseung Kwan O’s Ocean Popwalk shopping mall, conveniently right across from the CTS office where you get the Mainland China travel permit. I’ve now been 5 times solely for their underrated pizzas with a 48 hour fermented dough that is crispy outside and soft and airy inside. The pizzas are actually served on a metal tray with vent holes to help the crust stay crispy with interesting topping combinations like porchetta and camembert cheese or mortadella with burrata and pesto (my two personal faves) and n’duja with roasted eggplant. They also have Asian-inspired pastas like a laksa orecchiette that’s yummy.
DHYC Dim Sum Restaurant

This modern dim sum restaurant on the 1/F of Monterey Place mall serves a wide range of delicious dim sum with waterfront views. Be sure to make an advanced booking if you bring a dog as the outdoor tables are in high demand. I also recommend going early as some of their signature items sell out.
Cafe Boheme

This expansive, airy restaurant serves pizza and pasta right on the TKO waterfront promenade (as pictured at the top of this post) with plenty of outdoor, dog-friendly tables. Iโve only tried the pizza so far but especially enjoyed the mortadella pizza with burrata (the diavola is a bit oily/soggy for my liking though).
Walk We Eat

This dog-friendly cafe and dessert shop is just a couple of doors down from Hygge. You can go with one of their combinations or build your own from a wide range of toppings, including fresh mango, bouncy tofu mochi, sago, taro balls, milk pudding and more.
Chain Restaurants in TKO to Try
While I’ve never tried the TKO branches of these restaurants, I have enjoyed their locations elsewhere:
- Pici for crowd-pleasing freshly made pastas
- Coucou for upscale hotpot with high quality ingredients
- Haidilao for crowd-pleasing hot pot with their signature noodle dance
- Oolaa for western brunch fare
- Men Wah Bing Teng for char siu and pork chop rice dishes and other cha chaan teng dishes
- Milk Cafe for cheesy pineapple buns and elevated cha chaan teng items
